Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry

The department of Preventive and Community Dentistry is dedicated to train the graduate and under graduate students in public health dentistry to work within interdisciplinary team to conduct investigation on the risk factor for oral disease and the use of oral epidemology method to study health outcome of dental service and oral health policy. Preventive and community dentistry is a subject design to help the students to explore professional ethics as they relate to dentist’s relationship to peer, patient and community. Students attend dental camps and perform initial screening examination. They sensitizie to specific needs of a variety of patient population.

UG teaching Programme:

The undergraduate program starts in the final year. During the clinical posting, students receive the opportunity to examine patient, evaluate oral health status with various oral health disease indices and plane suitable treatment. Theory classes are taken in the final year. Student is trained etiology, diagnosis and management of the preventive and treatment of all the oral condition at the individual and community level. They are taught to identify social, economic, environmental or emotional determinants in a given individual patient or a community with the purpose of planning and executing a community oral health program. Department conduct school dental health program, state and national health program, surveys.

Facilities :

We have one screening bus, one mobile dental unit, dental chair in the department, and a comprehensive dental care wing in the college premise. Department is equipped with a well stoked library, a seminar room and a waiting area.- It conducts camp in a month in a urban and sub urban area of jodhpur. The mobile van is taken to the site of the camp and the patients are checked and treated on the dental chair installed in the van.

Patient referred from the camp is motivated to take proper treatment. Patient education is done with the help of various charts in the department. The patients are made aware of their dental problem by means of indices and are encouraged to go in for various treatment modelities available in the college.
