Dental Anatomy :
|
Its relevance to dentistry is primarily intended as a guide for dental students in the study of tooth morphology and related structure. It is designed to help them understand the relationship of teeth to one another and to gums, bones and muscles.
Dental anatomy in the broadest sense includes the surfaced from of the oral cavity, the external and internal morphology of the individual teeth and the relationship of teeth to each other. It also includes the relationship of the skull bones in which the teeth are set, the complex joints that enable and control movement of the lower jaw relative to cranium, and the associated muscles that bring about movement and the nerves and blood vesseles that supply structures.
The department also deals with the subject of oral-pathology, where in the 2nd and 3rd BDS students are made to understand the various disease process associated with the oral cavity along with its etiology and pathogenesis. Students are trained in histological diagnosis of various lesions associated with oral cavity.
