The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry was established as an independent faculty in 2006. The postgraduate course was started in the year 2010 with intake of 3 pg students per year.
The department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, located on the second floor of the main building , which divides to include an undergraduate and postgraduate clinic and preclinical UG & PG lab with its waiting lounge, staff chambers, library, special clinic, internet cabin and a special play room for the children.
The faculty offers a dynamic and unique suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to produce dental practitioners and research oriented post graduates of the highest calibre and international standing.
The department is well equipped with 23 dental chair units, complete laboratory set up, x-ray unit with rvg and latest audio visual aids creating a perfect ambience

UG Programme :
|
The undergraduate students performs basic exodontia procedures, simple restorations, oral prophylaxis and oral hygiene instructions, pits and fissure sealant application and fluoride application procedures. The input for the out patient department ranges from 20-25 per day. Staff and the lecturers working in the department are to guide the students. The UG clinic includes twenty dental chairs and a separate equipment and sterilization bay. Seminars and group discussions are conducted for proper interaction and molding of the students. Good clinical exposure is mandatory, as theoretical knowledge does not suffice. To extract the best out of each student, individual supervision is given. Dental treatment camps are organized for the students to participate in, not withholding the knowledge within the walls of the college.

Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry is a separate branch devoted to the needs of children. The importance of child's dentition is explained to parents and necessary procedures are carried out in restoring them. Procedures like (a) amalgam restorations (b) glass ionomer restorations (c) anterior & posterior composite restoration are regularly done.
Procedures like: (a) pulp therapy (b) minor orthodontic therapy (c) serial extractions and surgical procedures are carried out on child patients with the guidance of mds staff. Management of special care patients and uncooperative patients is done in a special clinic or under conscious sedation and general anesthesia.
“The world is not a problem; the problem is your unawareness.” Mean while numerous efforts have been made to ensure awareness of dental health for children in and around Jodhpur city. Free dental treatment with a specialty thrust, by the department, free Pedodontics camps, free school health programmes have been conducted. This helped to instill dental health knowledge not only among children but also among teachers and parents. These endeavors encouraged the inflow of patients and eradicated the prevalent notion that baby teeth do not deserve any treatment as they are lost anyway.
