About Applied Sciences and Humanities : To inform and enthuse students about the fundamental aspect of Science and to make them competent in communication and interpersonal skills, the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities was established. It caters to the requirements of the beginners of B. Tech. with proper guidance and motivation from the first day of their joining the college.

In this department we have a fine blend of renowned as well as young and dynamic faculty to provide quality education. The laboratories are modernized to reflect the rapid changes in technology. The Department has strong Industry interaction and involved in development of state-of art products for Industry. It has an extensive calibration and testing facilities for carrying out industry sponsored research projects.

This department offers courses in engineering chemistry to the first semester and second semester students as well as the course on environment engineering in second semester of B. Tech I year students. These courses are common to all branches of engineering. Every course includes theory, tutorial and practical laboratory work. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members, with all necessary infrastructure. The department aims at preparing the students for careers in all the fields of engineering aspects and also carries out basic and applied research work. The department has two laboratories each having capability of accommodating 30 students. Laboratory has proper arrangement for water and gas supply. Students are being benefited by the latest equipments during their practical in lab like UV Spectrophotometer, flame photometer, pH meter, Conductivity meter, Cloud & Pour point apparatus, Red Wood Viscometer, water distillation plant, electronic balance, stirrer, oven etc. This department has specialization in General Chemistry, Water Analysis and Water Pollution. The laboratory has enough facilities to carry out research and testing work related to water pollution.

It is the most important branch of science as it is the foundation of nature, the gigantical need of every man. The basic needs of life viz. food, water, clothes are all made through the process of Chemistry. Moreover, it possesses creative power to build modern science society. It also has the dexterity to save the world by maintaining ecological balance. The syllabus (applicable for two semesters) incorporates the study of quality of water, its effect in Engineering field, Pollution – Types causes, prevention and control, its effect on human health and surrounding topics related to bio-diversity and different properties of lubricating oil.


As we all know Physics is the mother of all Sciences. Engineering is also a form of Applied Science with Physics as its backbone. The course runs in two semesters and deals largely with study of Energy, Matter and their interactions, optical properties like Interference, Polarization and refraction, Einstein's theory of Relativity etc. Practical Knowledge plays important part in understanding theory more lucidly. So, there are two Laboratories of Physics along with Dark Rooms where students are taught to : Measure physical quantities with appropriate accuracy, Recognition of factors that would affect the reliability of the measurement, Inference and reasoning from their observation.

  1. Geiger-Muller Counter — For detection of beta particles and absorption coefficient of thin foil.
  2. R.C. Circuit — To study charging and discharging
  3. Sextant — For measuring height of tower, building etc.
  4. Diffraction Grating — Measurement of wavelength of prominent lines of mercury.
  5. Newton's Apparatus — To measure wavelength of sodium light.
  6. Prism — For measuring refractive index.

Besides, care foster bridge, G to V, G to A, Telescope etc. are also there.

Mathematics :

The Department is at the forefront of developing and applying advanced mathematical methods and ideas to problems arising in engineering. In this spirit, our research, teaching and other scholarly activities promote the appropriate and effective use of mathematical methods in the profession of engineering. Mathematics is an integral part of most branches of engineering. All engineers need to be able to formulate practical engineering problems in mathematical terms. They must also be capable of solving the mathematical models, if necessary with the aid of a computer, and of interpreting the solutions and understanding the practical implications. It is important to maintain the correct balance between theory and practice, analysis and synthesis, and logical solutions and intuition. This education in mathematical modeling is the main task of department of mathematics at tertiary institutions. Mathematics and applied mathematics take up a significant part of the first two years of engineering study. For this reason, courses are specifically taught to meet the needs of engineers.

The department conducts courses on Engineering Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Complex analysis , Numerical Methods and Linear Algebra for B. Tech. classes. Weak students are identified and special classes are conducted for them to enable them to perform well. As a result of the sincere effort of the team, the department has been consistently obtaining excellent results, with many students scoring 92 % in their mathematics paper.


For non-native English users, English is very important because it is widely spoken all around the world. Knowing English allows people to enjoy their life and work no matter where they are. For engineering students whose mother tongue is not English, mastering English is even more important, not only for their academic life but also for their prospective career. In order to master the engineering knowledge and skills better, engineering students should own the English language competence. Most of the scientific papers or journals in the world are written in English. Most of the engineering graphs are also marked in English. Moreover, most engineering professors in various universities are also conducting their lectures in English. Hence, engineering students should at least master the basic English ability to deal with the countless English lectures, tutorials, labs, projects and papers. Finally, they have to submit their important theses, still in English.

When engineering students graduate from the college and become real engineers, they will find that English appears even more crucial than it used to be. Engineers usually work in groups since their task can seldom be solved by an individual. The property of their work determines that being an engineer needs to cooperate and communicate with different people from different part of the world. For non-native English speakers, unfortunately, most of the engineers speak English as the first language or the working language. In order to understand and coordinate with their colleagues and accomplish their projects fluently, engineers have to speak good English. All in all, non-native English engineering students should try hard to improve their English ability, which could help to make both their school life and career more successful and enjoyable.
