The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology is catering to diagnostic services for all the Departments in the college, other hospitals and private practitioners as well.
The Department has got a well-equipped histopathology laboratory for the tissue processing and staining of the biopsy & cytology specimens. The laboratory is also resourced with instruments needed for blood examination. The Department consists of a research microscope room, which is equipped with an advanced research microscope attached with CCTV camera & a computer for reporting the slides. Microwave antigen retrieval and other advanced procedures are also available. Immunohisto chemical analysis, fluorescence microscopy, stereomicroscopy, colorimetric analysis and state of art binocular microscopes are available for accurate diagnosis and research procedures.
The faculties are involved in both undergraduate and post graduate teaching of Dental Histology and Oral Pathology. A basic knowledge of the tissue biology is needed for 1st year BDS in the subject of Oral Histology. Molecular biology is also essential for understanding embryogenesis & development, cell function & tissues formation. The department also deals with the subject of Oral Pathology, wherein the 2nd and 3rd BDS students are made to understand the various disease processes.
